USA vs USSR. Alexander Povetkin vs Chris Arreola who would win?

There is no longer a country called USSR, Alexander Povetkin is from Russia and he would easily knock out Arreola, Arreola has not really fought any name fighters and he does not deserve a title shot

Povetkin beat a shot Chris Byrd, & a couple of aging former contenders, but nobody of any real significance from an American perspective, but, as European press has been know to do, they make it seem names like Larry Donald & Calvin Brock have some creditability in an effort to create the illusion of an actual heavyweight contender. Povetkin was a solid amateur, & so far a decent heavyweight by today is standards, but backed down from a shot at Wladimir Klitschko in 2007 claiming injury, a page out of Wlad is older brothers book, & boxing purists do not look kindly on the tactic.

Arreola is a work in progress as well, & his amateur record was extensive too, he had over 200 amateur fights before taking a break for a while, then he came back to win a National Golden Gloves Tourney at light heavyweight. Arreola is more of a slugger than a boxer. He as a few more fights as a pro against lesser know heavyweights than Povetkin, & a very high KO percentage. Chirs has a nice start to his career & would give Povetkin a tough fight.

l think the fact that Chris is small, slugging heavyweight make is it difficult for him against the larger fighters, & l compare Arreola to Alex Garcia, another hard hitting contender that started fast, & faded against the next level of competition, so the jury is still out on Arreola. l lean towards Povetkin in this one, the experience level, both as an amateur & the level of pro competition is better with Povetkin than Arreola, but a hard hitting heavyweight always has a punchers chance.

It would be an interesting Heavyweight fight, at a time when interesting heavyweight fights r hard to come by, with Arreola being the underdog adn Povetkin a slight favorite. If it goes the distance, & Povetkin does not get careless, he should decision Arreola, but if he makes a mistake, the American can KO him.

l would guess Povetkin by decision if the fight is held outside the United States, & Arreola by KO if it is held in California. Boxing being what it is today, it is a coin flip due to the obvious corruption of the sanctioning bodies.

Wow, even in answering this question blogbaba finds it necessary to take a crack at Klitschkos. Way to show class my man. l suppose Vitali was too frightened to fight Hasim Rachman four years ago so he had to fake back & knee injuries & retire until The Rock was out of his prime & it was safe to return. Nice.

But anyway, to answer the question, l think that Povetkin would completely dominate this match from start to finish & stop Arreola in 8 or 9 rounds. He simply has every single advantage he could have in boxing over Chris except for power & it is difficult to see where he could get in trouble in this fight. Alexander does have some problems with his defense, which was obvious in the Byrd & Chambers fights but the truth is that Chris is nowhere near quick or technical enough to take advantage of any of those. From what I've seen so far he is this slow punching, slow moving, plodding fighter who only has success when he manages to cut people off & get them on the ropes to land his power shots & l really can not imagine how he would get Povetkin anywhere close to this position.
l think that Alexander is work rate would be the key factor here. He would come out aggressively, as he usually does, throw punches in combinations & force a fight at a very high pace which would completely destroy Chris. Sure he would fight back for a couple of rounds while he had the strength & stamina to do so but, considering his shape, pretty soon that would be gone. Then from about, round 4 on Alexander would take control of the match & start landing & punishing Chris more & more. Chris is brave & he would try to hold out but Povetkin is relentless. He keeps the same pace & attacks viciously all the time while Arreola visibly fades with every following round. Finally, midway through round 9 Povetkin lands a huge right straight, follows up by a quick, sharp left hook & Chris, already very tired & hurt, goes down. He manages to get up, but only to be immediately trapped in the corner & battered by Alexander until the referee jumps in to save him.
