You are not too old, but very immature

you're not too old! join a boxing gym. usually plenty in urban areas. you will probably fight others in middleweight division. Another option is joining a karate dojo that offers either boxing, or some other type of martial art (muay thai, kickboxing, tae kwon do, judo, juijitsu, etc)

go to an MMA school.. l hate to say it even though l used to e a huge boxing fan but boxing is dying & MMA is taking over. In MMA u would probably be in lightweight if u cut 5 lbs, which seems more ur natural weight. MMA as l am sure u know develops all skills not just fist fighting. And heck no ur not old enough. Rich Franklin didnt start training in MMA until he was in his 20 is & already done with college. He used to be the middleweight champ. 16 is not to old for anything. Just dont fight in the street it can cause jail time & some gyms will kick u out for fighting outside the gym or a authorized competition.
Also, ur 16 & will prolly grow a few more inches & gain a few more pounds. but if ur mentally strong u will adjust

not to bag on you or whatever, but l think boxing is gay
mma is the only way to go. l love it. l strted taking muay thai last year and its great. im kinda like you except im 15 139 and 5'5'' as well

so no, youre not too old to strt boxing, youre actually at a really good age. and immaturity comes from being a teen

Boxing might be dieing, but MMA pays crap compared to boxing. l would say you are to old to do anything in the Professional level in boxing. Your height only being 5'5'' is a real disadvantage unless you can get down to welterweight 147 pounds also the lower the weight class the more skill it takes . MMA anybody at any age can come in and go to the top. The sport has just began and nobody is really that skilled. l suggest going MMA for you.

Guys u r forgetting the world is not just the US. MMA is big here but outside of us, brazil, japan & a few russian/Euro regions no other major populations give a rats ass about MMA.

Boxing is prime time in over 100 countries world wide. And most of them have never seen an MMA fight, & could not care less about MMA & their tiny little salaries.

That is a fact, debate finished.

As to starting boxing u r not too late. Boxing is best learnt between 14-17 anyway. Any younger than that does not help. For some sports it does, but for boxing the technique & style is completely different for little kids due to the way their bodies are(short arms, big eggheads compared to their height).

Its not until u get a man is leaness & strength u develope ur boxing properly. So u r at no disadvantage to start now.

All u have to do is call a club & go & see the coach. Nothing else needed, nothing else works. l was the toughest guy on the street in my day, & like all tough guys l had to learn from scratch at boxing. There r no natural fighters. Go & have fun.

MMA whats the big deal ? a disciplined fighter (boxer) will always beat MMA. l have seen MMA fighters throw punch after punch yet no one has been knocked out, they end up rolling about in scissor leg locks still punching & elbowing each other in the face. A trained boxer will knock out any one of the MMA guys because a boxer is trained to throw a power punch with timing meaning only one outcome - a knockout.
You must train hard, running, bag work, hard stamina work then join a club. DISCIPLINE is the key to success, in mind & body. Ali started aged 9yrs, he was a skinny little boy,, the rest is history.
remember always be humble never arrogant & always respect ur opponent, then u will be a great boxer. Follow ur gut feeling. Ali was the first in his gym & the last one to leave such was his dedication
