l remember when l was a kid it was always about the heavy weights such as mike tyson and evander holyfield. But now all the media focuses on is these welterweights who l do not care about.

Why does not HBO have hour long hype up documentaries about heavyweights anymore?

Because heavywieghts always look like they're having standing orgies while they fight. No straight man would watch it.

Because the heavyweight fights do not last as long. The fight would end in the first or second round always. One solid punch landed in heavyweight would end the fight. + too many miss matches.. But funny how it vanished yes.

l am not american but l am guessing it is because the heavyweight division is so poor at the moment they have switched their focus to more exciting divisions.

Cause the welterweight has the better fight and bigger names.

Because the heavyweight division have weakened tremendously since Lennox Lewis retired. The Klitschko brothers r pretty sound but after them is a huge drop off. It also does not help that both Klitschko brothers quit on their bench in at least one fight & Wladimar has a weak chin & up until about 2 years ago, he lacked stamina.

Also, the heavyweight belt changed hands continuously in the past 2 or 3 years which speak to the lack of superior talent at the heavyweight level.

As they say, so goes the heavyweight division, so goes boxing. That is why boxing is popularity have decreased tremendously over the past few years. As u indicated, there r allot of people who r not that interested in the lower weights.

to put it clearly, the heavyweight sucks..

the fights just arent the same no more.

holyfield use to throw combinations like oscar de la hoya..

tyson had the strongest left hook u'd ever see...

now, its just slaps & l fall down.

heavyweights use to have a chin, & dey dont no more..

they arent even conditioned to fight.

their slow & boring.

its a disgrace to boxing. but l dont care..

welterweight is the $hit right now...

manny is pure excitement..

margarito & mosely will be a war too.

its great to see fights like these.. its like heavyweights, but at a ligheter division.

have faith.. now is just the era of the welterweights & below.

it will go back to the the heavyweight, years from now.

Lack of good American heavyweights, example: there has been no boise over the heavyweights for a while now, & as soon as american fighter Chris Arreola shows up he is getting all kinds of attention in America, shouts of ''bring on the Klitchkos Arreola is a joke, he is slow, unskilled & unmotivated, If u put him in their with either Klitchko he would be gone in a round or two.maybe not against Wladamir, that guy is the shakiest heavyweight champion ever, but Klitchko is learning to protect his fragile chin by fighting tall, so l dont see Arreola getting close enough.

So that fact that this jobber Arreola is getting so much attention is because he is American & the American fans r not willing in general to follow the Europeon heavyweights, im talking main streme fans, hardcore fans will watch no matter who is fighting we do not really give a shit about nationality its about the fighter.

That being said, l am Canadian & could care less where a fighter is from, l am there to watch exciting fights & the Europeons just do not bring excitement, plain & simple, Wladimir Klitchko is a horrible champion. His brother is better, but by no means is he great. l do like Chagaev but he is constantly injured.

Id say to answer ur question its a combination of the two, No good American heavyweights & no exciting foreign heavyweights. There is just nothing up there right now, If there was an exciting Europeon heavyweight he would get coverage, but there is not so most boxing media focuses on the lower weight classes where we got exciting fighters like

Cotto,Margarito,Berto,Pacquiao,Hatton,Clottey,Sotto,Marquez & some good prospects like Victor Ortiz, All exciting fighters, the 130 to 147 lb weight division is full of exciting fighters & good prospects so it is carrying the sport right now.

Right now the Heavyweight division is open for another Mike Tyson,Lennox Lewis or Holyfield to come along & make waves smashing out all these uncoordinated untalented heavyweights & making some noise, hopefully he gets here soon.

It is because heavyweights are not fun to watch. If you're like me who have watched Mohammad Ali fight, you will get bored. Ali simply danced around the ring, swinging his left glove up and down, ducking the punches that come at him. He did not seem like he wanted to swing at his opponent. Compare that to how Manny Pacquiao and others in his group perform and you will know what l mean.

Don,t believe everything u hear or see there is nothing wrong with the heavy weighs the media tells u who to watch after Oscar won the Gold Medal there was a shift to Latino fighters as we all know most of them r smaller fighters. Most of ur top heavy weights in america r black so the media pulled the plug on them . l bet ur wondering where r all the heavy weights they r still here u just wont see them on TV any more. The promoters & HBO run boxing & they tell u who ur going to see & when. l will give u a name Cedric Boswell from Atlanta 28-1 u may never see this guy fight but he is one of the best in the world all he needs is a chance. l hate to make it a race thing but u have to ask ur self why like Mayweather said it is a race thing & who should know better than him. Mayweathers retirment is due to race & money.

l always felt that when Mike Tyson came on the scene, he got
so many people jazzed up about boxing. He made everyone
interested, his fights became water cooler talk. Even the
non-boxing fans really got into it. The boxing business, the premium channels with PPV taking off, the invent of the mega casinos, everything got so pumped up on the business & excitement he was generating. And then poof it was gone when he went to prison. In to carry the boxing worlds attention, focus & take over the void of exiting revenue left by that for the next 5 years was Julio Cesar Chavez. If u remember, during that time frame he was everything in boxing. The whole sport revolved around him for those years. All of a sudden, size became almost irrelevant. And exciting fights & fighters followed suit. And they came in every size shape & form. And the fans & therefore the revenue happily came for the ride.
And before u know it, almost all of the weight classes were
getting pretty good attention.

we know who the lightweight champion and feather etc is but who is the current heaveyweight champion of the world?

the reason l dont know is because the media dont bother about them anymore,it seems as if they are hyping matches up like froch vs pascal(which are lightheavys)

i miss the days when Tyson was and other great heavy weights were being hyped.

Because America has lost it is grip on the heavyweight scene, so they focus on the smaller guys that can rake the $$$$ is in by mainstreaming their golden boys of the smaller weights.

The American media shifted its focus to the lighter divisions like welterweight because the American media likes to watch American fighters. Take a good look at the heavyweight division. It is ruled by fighters from European countries, it is no longer controlled by the American boxers like Tyson, or Holyfield. Back then, the media loved fighters like Tyson, & Holyfield. The heavyweight division was controlled by American fighters. But when Lewis came along, the canadian superstar took control of the heavyweight division. And if u take a look back, the American public really did not like Lewis, just because of the fact that he was not American. And from that, the Klitschko brothers have now owned the Heavywieght division for quite some time. And plus all the holding is unimpressive. l would rather watch a smaller Weight division with a lot of talent.
